Making a Decision
I’ve written about this before and because of the importance of this topic I will most likely write about it again because it is so important and it’s so easy to fall back into some old bad habits!
What do you want for your life? There is an exercise called 100 Wants. If you’ve not done a list of your 100 wants now is the time to do it!
When you list your wants, put some big wants in there. Think outside your comfort zone. Most of us are conditioned to not take any risks. Successful people take risks and is why they are successful.
The best wants/goals are what we call C-type goals – big goals we have no idea how we will accomplish. Don’t list something that you’ve already done before, like buying a same model and make car you’ve bought before. You already know how to do that. Think bigger! Add a zero! Do something you’ve always wanted to do. Do that “someday” goal now! We become and get what we think about!
So, make your 100 Want List and pick one want, and only one. Something that really inspires you!
Many successful people don’t overthink a decision. They make their decisions quick. So, we encourage you also to not think something to death.
Once you’ve decided, begin working towards that want.
Now that you’ve made your decision it’s time to apply persistence to the idea.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day” and you’re not going to reach your goal instantly. It’s going to take some persistence, some course checks to keep you on track, it is called the will. Did you know a plane is off course most of the time? It’s the auto pilot that makes many small course corrections during the flight.
How bad do you want it? Is it big enough to keep your attention? What are you willing to do for it? These are some of the ingredients that builds the desire to keep you persistent.
I look at persistence like dating. You didn’t have to work hard at thinking about your special someone when you were apart. You didn’t need a reminder to think about them.
Your want is your honey. Visualize your goal often as already reached - see it, smell it, taste it, hear it, touch it! Spend time with it daily, taking baby steps to its accomplishment.
In January 2019 we made a big decision – a kitchen renovation. This past January 2021 we made another big decision that we’re working on.
As we did in 2019, we began by dreaming about what we wanted, talking about it, and envisioned ourselves as our goal being already attained. We asked questions, did some research, anticipated challenges, determined the steps to take, and found solutions where needed. The key is we took action moving toward our goal. We took some risks. We were persistent and expect to soon to realize it!
The key was deciding what we wanted, deciding to take steps toward it, take the steps and remaining persistent, knocking down ideas or reasons that were in opposition to our goal. We stayed the course, and we now we will soon have it in our possession!
Many of us dream things, think about ideas, but until we make the decision to go after it with everything you’ve got, it is as Wallace Wattles calls it “just dreamers and castle builders”.
You don’t want to look back and say, “I wish”. You want to look forward and yell “I did it!”
Decision and Persistence are the essentials for your success! We want to encourage you to go after your dreams! It is never too late to go after what you want! We would love to hear your dreams and goals and help you get them!
